POP3 Instructions:

These settings will make way for you to set up POP on your Windows Live Mail so that you can easily connect it to the server in order to download your email. It is recommended to use IMAP, but if you want to go with POP, then here are the steps that you will have to follow:

1.      Open Windows Live Mail.

2.      Add your RCN email account.

a.      Select ‘File’ from the menu option given at the top of the window.
b.      Select ‘Options’.
c.       Select the option named ‘email accounts’
d.      Select ‘Add’.
e.      Choose your email account.

3.      Type in the below-mentioned information:

a.      Email address: Your RCN email address.
b.      Password: Your RCN email password.

d.      The display name for your sent messages: You need to add your full name here.
e.      Click ‘Yes’ to the option that says, ‘Manually configure server settings’.
f.        Select ‘next’.

4.      Enter incoming server information

a.      Server Type: POP
b.      Server Address: imap.rcn.com
                                                              i.      Port: 993
c.       Logon User name: Your RCN email address excluding @rcn.com

5.      Enter outgoing server information

a.      Server address: Enter ‘mail.rcn.com’.
b.      Port: 587.
c.       Click ‘Yes’ to the option named ‘required authentication’.

6.      Click Next and then Finish.

How To Edit Settings Of Your Existing RCN Mail On OSX 10.11?

You have the option to change or alter the account added earlier in your Mac mail. If you want to switch your account from SSL to Non-SSL or vice versa, then you can do so quite easily. 

We want to mention an important point here that don’t forget to take backup of data stored in email because when you delete the account from the server, the whole data gets deleted. This is more common in POP accounts. You can’t recover the data by any means. 

As we know that any changes made on RCN mail will be directly related to incoming and outgoing servers. Changing the password or SSL settings do not get applied till it gets changed on incoming as well as the outgoing server.

Step 1: Changing incoming server settings 


  • To change the incoming server settings for your RCN account, over to ‘Internet account’ and click on ‘Accounts’ from the mail option.
  • Here, you will find a list of email services. Click on ‘RCN’ to change the incoming server settings of this email account. 

Step 2: Updating the password  


  • To update the password of your RCN email account, you are required to log in to the email and click on ‘Accounts’ from preference pane. 

Changing the incoming server name and connection type:
  • Tap on ‘Advanced’ button given at the bottom right of the account section. You are required to check the Hostname option from Popup panel.
  • For SSL settings, the server hostname will be used.
  • For Non-SSL, the domain name will be used.
  • After changing the name of the host, click to save.
Configuring outgoing server settings
  • Go to ‘Preferences’ from Mail menu and open ‘Internet accounts’. Click on ‘RCN’ from the left side menu.
  • On Account information, Click ‘Outgoing mail server’. Click to edit the server list or settings.
Changing the name of the outgoing server:
  • Just click on mail server name from the top menu and then change the name according to your choice. You will find this under account information page.
  • When you configure SSL on your server, then it will use the hostname.
  • Standard Non-SSL settings use the domain name for any alterations or editing.
  • After changing the server name, click on ‘Advanced’ option to change the SSL settings.
  • Port number: It should be 587 irrespective of connection method.
  • SSL: If you want to use SSL settings for your account, then the respective box must be tick marked. In case Non-SSL settings are used, then keep this box unchecked.
  • Authentication: It should be password.
  • Enter the username or password in the respective fields. You must enter the password you used to login to the account.
  • You can now check your mail. It will start fetching the new settings when you click ‘Save’ button.
